arrived safely

Posted by Simi on September 24, 2009

robert and i arrived in good spirits with all our luggage. mine i think was the very last one off the plane. robert set next to a masai chief and learned a great deal about animistic life. when we arrived in nairobi he introduced us to his family and fellow warrors who had come to pick him up at the airport. when we arrived at the hotel for a very short night there had been a mixup about our reservations and we had no room. a friend called the hotel to check on us…and talked to the clerk, and on the couch were 2 people from e3 on the way to Tanzania…long story short..we bunked up with the Tanzania team and are up at 4;30am having coffee with them and then off at 5;45am for Sudan. we are in good spirits and good health. excited about the day ahead. thanks for the prayers..and thanks for a place to sleep last nite! God bless you.patricia and robert

Bound for Sudan!

Posted by Simi on September 22, 2009

Attached are prayer calendars for Sudan! This is a very challenging trip and I appreciate your heartfelt prayer cover for the work God is calling us to do amongst the Toposa.

I will be in Sudan for 6 weeks: Training, Learning and working towards beginning a women’s ministry amongst the Toposa. The team will depart the USA October 27 and meet up with me in Sudan. Doug will be coming in with that team—his first trip to Sudan! You’ll receive the team calendar in a few weeks. I have also attached an opportunity for you to partner with me financially to help underwrite the cost of this trip.

Meanwhile my friend will be sending you updates from Sudan and Doug will appreciate your prayers as he keeps the home fires burning and prepares for Sudan.

September 23 – October 28 Pre-trip training and learning in Kapoeta, Southern Sudan

Prayer Requests: from 9/18/2009

Posted by Simi on September 18, 2009

Robert Gunn and Patricia Caroom will be leaving for Sudan on September 23rd to spend some time with James Lokuuda and the Toposa Christians in Kapoeta Robert and Patricia will be listening to Lokuuda’s vision for the church planting , sharing some ideas we have and praying to God for the direction of 2009-2010. They will go with James to Nairobi to the Sudan Consultation meeting with other ministries working in Sudan. Robert will return to Austin to bring the rest of the team to Sudan on October 27th – November 7th.

James Lokuuda has asks us all to praise God for bringing him through this time of “political difficulties” The school has been reopened.

The food situation is hopeless because of drought there are no crops. Food is getting harder to find and is now 3 times the cost of last year. Pray for rain so there will be some late crops and grass for animals.

There are seven young Toposa and Turkana men at e3 Bible school. Pray they absorb all that God has prepared for them in advance and they will be faithful servants.

Bible school guys

The Names of these young men are:

Nicodemus
Paul Lonok
Paul Lorot
Simon Mather Lotabo
Samuel Emurla
Joseph Locoo
Paul Lokayi Imillo

Theses young Toposa men at the e3 Bible College are very far from home geographically and world’s away culturally. Two of them are having significant problems. These are men who will potentially pastor the churches we want to plant and train new pastors. Can you see why spiritual warfare is so intense. Paul Lorot has serious case of malaria. More people die of malaria than of aids in Africa. The others need intense prayer is Samuel Emurla. He is struggling with school. I believe there is some trauma from his past that needs to be healed. Only God can heal him. Other Toposa Brothers in Bible School need our prayers also to keep strong in the word, comfort when they are tired, the presents of God to know that he is watching and protecting them. I have met most of the young guys and they are super charged for God.

So Please pray for them, James Lokuuda as he continues getting his compound ready for school and church and Robert and Patricia. They will need rest and strength and Robert needs to drink a lot of water so pray that he does.

Thank each one of you that are so faithful to pray for these wonder people in Africa.
